Outdoor clothing and equipment need to be kept clean because dirt attracts water and can also increase abrasion that might impair any DWR finish.
A non-detergent soap should always be used because detergent not only washes away the DWR finish, but can leave a residue on the fabric which will attract water.
This is also important for deer stalkers because many detergents are designed to reflect more ultra-violet to make whites look whiter. Deer are very sensitive to ultra-violet so a non-detergent cleaner should always be used.
Reproofing Waterproof Clothing
As well as cleaning your gear you will need to re-proof it from time to time, to maintain the water repellency.
This can be done with a wash-in re-proofing product or a spray-on if you don’t want the lining to be treated.
