Maglite
The Mag-Lite flashlight revolutionised the portable lighting industry when it was introduced in 1979. Up until then a torch (or flashlight) had always been regarded as unreliable. They tended to be of very poor quality and would be discarded very quickly. Anthony Maglica changed all that when he made the Mag-Lite.

It was initially aimed at professionals like the police and fire service, and its superior design combined reliability with durability, and a lifetime warranty. This was truly unprecedented. The lives and livelihoods of these professionals would sometimes depend on the reliability of their flashlights, and soon they started to insist on Mag-Lites.
