Season Ratings on Camping Sleeping Bags
We are often asked what the season rating means, and once you know it is very simple. A 1 season sleeping bag is suitable for summer use only, and a 3 season sleeping bag is suitable for use from spring through to autumn. A 2 season bag is suitable for mid-spring until mid-autumn, and so on.
These are only meant as rough guides, though. Remember that it is generally colder up in Scotland, so a warmer bag may be required. The temperature ratings are a better guide, but you should also remember that these ratings assume you will be sleeping in a tent, using a sleep mat, and wearing night clothes.
1 Season Sleeping Bags

We even have bags designed for tropical use, like the Jungle Bag and the Travelpak Traveller, both by Snugpak. These are extremely compact and lightweight and have a built-in mosquito net.
Softie Elite Range of Military Sleeping Bags
Also by Snugpak is the Softie Elite range of military sleeping bags. These all have a superb size to warmth ratio and range from the Softie Elite 1 for summer use, up to the Softie Elite 5 for extreme cold weather use.
All of the bags in the Elite range have a built-in expander panel system (EPS). This system allows you to increase the size of the bag making them ideal for the larger person and also to cool things down on warmer nights. The Chrysalis range is the civilian equivalent and do not have the reinforced footbox.
